Oh, the shadows
Have gathered
On my porch…
Image is scrambled
Signal is faint and
Each small noise
Echoes the same
Warning, now.
While I was pushing
Into this tunnel
Of gravel and mines,
Of treason disguised,
I wondered, are those faint lights
Worth exploding my heart?
The shadows cluster
Over my head,
They know the truth,
I know it, too…
The jar of sealed souvenirs
Grins from ear to ear
Its glass face taunting me.
Lying derailed
In these fields of beauty,
I wonder, if they truly knew me,
Would they drive through me
In their brand new motorcars?
The shadows enclose me
In sobering circles
The path spreads open,
Asks for only a step
And a tear
To let me walk its ground.
Very well, then,
Let confusion leak out of me.
Ah…shadows have hushed their sound, for
I know what they know for some time now…
PS - Thanks to Angie for posting Coldplay's song Gravity, it pushed this poem out of my mind and I think it's been lingering there for what seems like forever. Strange, the ways in which words are triggered out of one :).

I'm so glad that I indirectly "triggered" the birth of a poem...
